Governor Blanco announces Louisiana's rural economy grows with new Jeld-Wen manufacturing facility in Winn Parish

Winnfield, LA, November 28, 2006 - Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco and Louisiana Economic Development (LED) announced today that JELD-WEN, the world's largest manufacturer of reliable windows and doors, will build a door facings plant in Winn Parish.  The JELD-WEN plant will use wood chips from Louisiana and create 75 new permanent jobs with benefits. Construction of the new plant is expected to create 300 temporary jobs and is slated to begin in early 2007.

"Jeld-Wen's investment demonstrates the viability of Louisiana's forest products, infrastructure and workforce," said Governor Blanco. "Jeld-Wen is making a major investment in rural Louisiana, adding value to the Louisiana timber harvest and creating new jobs with benefits for our people. This is a great time for businesses to seek new opportunities in Louisiana and we are very pleased that the company has chosen Louisiana for its next stage of growth."

JELD-WEN considered green field sites for new construction in Central Louisiana and Mississippi, or, an expansion at an existing facility in West Virginia. Governor Blanco and the team at LED began working to attract JELD-WEN in 2004. LED officials have worked with the company since to develop the project.

Some of the major attractions of Central Louisiana included competitive utility rates offered by rural electric cooperatives; its strategic location to serve the growing Sunbelt housing market; excellent work ethic of its people; and wood chip suppliers capable of providing the raw material specifications and tonnages necessary for door facing production.
